Egypt is taking proactive measures to mitigate the potential economic impact of escalating regional geopolitical tensions. Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly outlined these measures during a meeting of the Central Crisis Management Committee in the New Administrative Capital on Monday evening. The government is preparing for various scenarios to ease the effects of the crisis on local and global markets.

The government's preparations include boosting goods and product inventories to secure citizens' needs. Additionally, the government plans to reduce its consumption of fuel and energy to sustain vital sectors. These measures aim to ensure the continuation of economic and productive activities despite the rising tensions in the region.

Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk and Planning and Economic Development Minister Ahmed Rostom are finalizing a strategy to rationalize public expenditure and maximize the efficiency of state resources. This plan is in response to rapid regional and global developments. The proposed plan guarantees the continuation of economic activities and the availability of financial allocations for basic commodities and petroleum materials.

Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Sherif Farouk stated that Egypt's strategic reserves of various commodities are sufficient for an average of six months. Some goods have inventories that exceed this timeframe. New contracts have been signed to further boost inventories and ensure the availability of essential goods.

The government has also initiated a plan to reduce the prices of basic goods. This initiative currently includes 30 commodities sold at 15% to 25% discounts compared to external markets. The plan is being implemented through an expanded nationwide network of outlets to make essential goods more affordable for citizens.

The crisis management meeting was attended by several high-ranking officials, including Central Bank of Egypt Governor Hassan Abdalla and Minister of State for Information Diaa Rashwan. Other attendees included ministers and officials from various sectors, such as electricity, agriculture, petroleum, and industry. The meeting demonstrated the government's commitment to addressing the economic challenges posed by regional tensions.

The government's efforts to mitigate the economic impact of regional tensions are multifaceted. By boosting strategic reserves, rationalizing government spending, and implementing initiatives to reduce the prices of basic goods, Egypt aims to ensure economic stability and protect its citizens from the adverse effects of the crisis.
