Egypt is witnessing a surge in electric car sales as global fuel prices continue to rise. According to data from motor1, a website specializing in cars, sales of electric vehicles are increasing. The trend is driven by consumers seeking alternatives to traditional fuel-powered cars. Hybrid cars are gaining popularity, offering a familiar driving experience and improved fuel efficiency.

Recent data from Cox Automotive reveals that new electric car sales rose by 2.5% in August compared to July. However, sales are still 46.9% lower than the same period last year, when consumers rushed to buy electric cars before the federal tax exemption expired. Tesla led the market with nearly 41,000 units sold, despite a 3.8% decline in sales from July. Toyota ranked second, with a 34.9% increase in sales to 4,964 units.

The average price of new electric cars continues to decline, with an 1.3% drop in August and a 2.8% decrease year-over-year. The current average price is $54,754, still higher than traditional fuel-powered cars, which average $49,907. However, the gap is narrowing, making electric cars more competitive in the market.

The used electric car market is also experiencing significant growth, with sales rising by 25.9% in August and 14.7% over the past year. A total of 44,350 used electric cars were sold, offering consumers more affordable options. The average price of used electric cars decreased by 1% in August to $37,441, which is 8.2% higher than the same period last year.

Tesla dominates the used electric car market, accounting for approximately 30% of total sales. However, other brands like Nissan and Kia saw significant increases in sales, with 45.1% and 32.1% growth, respectively. Popular models like Tesla's Model 3 and Model Y, as well as Ford's Mustang Mach-E, experienced substantial increases in sales.

The rise in electric car sales can be attributed to changing consumer behavior and government incentives. As global fuel prices continue to fluctuate, consumers are seeking more sustainable and cost-effective options. Egypt's market is reflecting this trend, with electric cars becoming increasingly popular.

As the electric car market continues to grow, local and international manufacturers are likely to expand their offerings. With the Egyptian government's focus on promoting sustainable transportation, the country's electric car market is poised for further growth. Key players like Tesla, Toyota, and Ford are expected to play a significant role in shaping the market.
