The Zamalek Club in Egypt has expressed its deepest condolences over the death of Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the president of the UAE's Wasl Club. In a statement released on Monday, the club's board of directors, led by Hussein Labib, offered sincere condolences to Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President of the United Arab Emirates, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, as well as the family of the deceased and the management and fans of Wasl Club.
Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum passed away on Wednesday morning, and the Zamalek Club prayed for him to be granted mercy and forgiveness by God, and for his soul to rest in peace. The club also asked God to give his family and loved ones patience and solace. The death of Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum was announced by the Diwan of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum on Monday.
A period of official mourning has been declared in Dubai for ten days, starting from Monday, and flags will be flown at half-mast. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum mourned his brother, saying: "May God have mercy on Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum... May God have mercy on you, my brother... You have gone to a generous and great Lord... You are absent from our eyes but not from our prayers and hearts, Ahmed."
Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum was born in 1950 and was the youngest brother of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. He was the fourth son of the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, who ruled Dubai from 1958 until his death in 1990. Sheikh Ahmed played a pivotal role in the development of Dubai and was one of the founding fathers of the UAE.
Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum held several positions, including Deputy Chief of Police and General Security in Dubai. He was also involved in various sports, including football, horse racing, and marine sports. He was the president of Wasl Club for a long period and was known as the "spiritual father" of the club. He also had a significant presence in horse racing and was one of the developers of this sport in Dubai.
Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum graduated from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in Britain before joining the military and commanding the Central Military Base in Dubai. He was also involved in the establishment of the Dubai International Marine Sports Club and was its president when it was founded in the late 1980s.
The Zamalek Club and the Egyptian sports community have expressed their condolences to the UAE and the family of Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
