Egypt's markets witnessed a relative stability in prices of vegetables, fruits, fish, poultry, and meat on Thursday, October 8, 2026. According to the latest updates from the Obour Market and the Poultry Exchange, the stability is supported by the availability of supply and regular trading activity. A field survey revealed slight variations between wholesale and retail prices due to transportation costs and profit margins, with no significant price jumps.

The prices of vegetables showed relative stability, with a slight increase of 3-7 pounds per kilogram in retail markets compared to wholesale prices. Tomatoes ranged from 7.5 to 12.5 pounds per kilogram, potatoes from 14 to 18 pounds, and white onions from 14 to 20 pounds. Red onions ranged from 13 to 17 pounds, while zucchini prices ranged from 15 to 21 pounds per kilogram.

The prices of fruits also stabilized with minor variations in consumer prices. The price of local oranges ranged from 11 to 15 pounds per kilogram, while Abou Sera oranges ranged from 19 to 25 pounds. Grapefruits were priced between 12 and 18 pounds, and local lemons ranged from 17 to 23 pounds. The prices of bananas and other fruits also showed stability.

The prices of fish maintained their stability, particularly for tilapia, which is in high demand. The prices of fish on Thursday were as follows: tilapia (1) ranged from 77 to 81 pounds per kilogram, tilapia (2) from 71 to 75 pounds, and tilapia fillet from 75 to 275 pounds per kilogram. Other fish prices also remained stable.

The prices of white chickens on the Poultry Exchange ranged from 60 to 70 pounds per kilogram, while retail prices in stores ranged from 80 to 85 pounds per kilogram, depending on the region and transportation costs. The prices of other types of chickens, such as Saso and local chickens, also showed stability.

The prices of eggs also stabilized in both wholesale and retail markets. Red eggs were priced at 105 pounds per carton (wholesale) and between 115 and 125 pounds per carton (retail), depending on the region. White eggs were priced at 100 pounds per carton (wholesale) and between 110 and 120 pounds per carton (retail).

The prices of meat also showed stability, with a sufficient supply in consumer outlets and complexes across various types. The prices of meat on Thursday were as follows: local beef (Kandouz) ranged from 400 to 450 pounds per kilogram, and local lamb ranged from 380 to 430 pounds per kilogram. The government outlets continue to offer meat at reduced prices, which helps increase supply and achieve relative balance in the markets.
