Egypt's Minister of Transport, Engineer Kamel El-Wazir, witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Alexandria Port Authority and Chinese company Xiamen C&D (C&D) to establish a specialized terminal for bulk industrial cargo at El-Mex port. The project is part of a larger plan to develop Alexandria port and enhance its capabilities to receive large ships and handle industrial goods. The MoU was signed by Admiral Ehab Salah, head of the Alexandria Port Authority, and Liu Rongdian, managing director and CEO of C&D.

The new terminal is expected to be the first of four to be built at El-Mex port as part of a plan to develop the port and increase its capacity to handle large ships and cargo. The project aims to support Egypt's economy and enhance the country's position as a regional hub for transportation and logistics. The terminal will feature two main berths to receive large ships, and its completion is expected to allow Alexandria port to handle three large ships simultaneously, boosting its competitiveness among global ports.

The project is expected to create thousands of direct and indirect job opportunities during the construction and development phases, as well as after the terminal begins operations. The terminal will help reduce supply chain costs and improve the transportation of raw materials and finished products, supporting the competitiveness of Egyptian exports, particularly in the cement, steel, and heavy industries sectors. The project's technical plan includes the application of an advanced environmental management system in accordance with international standards.

Minister El-Wazir emphasized that the project aligns with the Egyptian government's vision for 2030 and the goal of transforming Egypt into a regional hub for transportation, logistics, and transit trade. The project also aims to enhance the role of Egyptian ports in global supply chains. Liu Rongdian, C&D's managing director and CEO, noted that the project is expected to be one of the largest port projects in the Mediterranean region.

The development of the El-Mex port is part of a larger plan to upgrade Egyptian ports and increase their capacity to handle large ships and cargo. The project includes the construction of new berths, storage areas, and advanced cargo handling facilities, as well as a logistics center to facilitate the movement of trucks and enhance connectivity with the national rail network.

The Alexandria Port Authority and C&D will work together to implement the project, which is expected to have a significant impact on Egypt's maritime trade and economy. The project will also contribute to the growth of the logistics and transportation sectors in Egypt.

The signing of the MoU marks an important step in the development of El-Mex port and Egypt's maritime infrastructure. The project is expected to be completed in the coming years, and its implementation will be closely monitored by the Egyptian government and C&D.
