Egypt's space agency recently participated in the China-Africa Cooperation Week on Satellite Data Applications, held in Beijing from September 15 to 18, 2026. The event saw participation from representatives of 22 African countries, along with Chinese government, research, and academic institutions specializing in satellites, Earth observation, and space data analysis.
The Egyptian Space Agency was represented by Dr. Maged Ismail, who delivered an opening speech highlighting the importance of Egyptian-Chinese cooperation in space technology. Ismail emphasized the partnership between the two countries in exchanging expertise, developing technology, and building capacities, as well as promoting practical use of satellite data to support sustainable development.
Dr. Ismail also mentioned that the EgyptSat 2 satellite represents a significant milestone in developing Egypt's national capabilities in Earth observation. He noted that Egypt is moving towards building a comprehensive system to convert satellite data into smart information and solutions that support decision-making and serve various development sectors.
Ahmed El-Shal, head of the Earth Observation Data Processing Department, reviewed the capabilities of the Egyptian Space Agency and the role of the National Center for Space Data in processing and analyzing satellite data. El-Shal also discussed the agency's efforts to develop practical applications that serve development and decision-making, using artificial intelligence and big data technologies.
The event included a ceremony where representatives of the Egyptian Space Agency and Chinese officials exchanged commemorative shields, reflecting the depth of their cooperation and their commitment to further development. This participation is part of the Egyptian Space Agency's efforts to expand international cooperation and enhance Egypt's role in the African space cooperation system.
