The Rafah City Council in North Sinai has initiated the drilling of a water well to feed the Al-Agira desalination plant in the village of Al-Barth. This project aims to enhance drinking water services in border areas and upgrade infrastructure for residents in Al-Barth and surrounding regions. The well will reach a depth of approximately 15 meters to access water with suitable salinity levels for use.

The Al-Agira desalination plant in Al-Barth is designed to be a model facility, comprising a treatment unit with a capacity of 60 cubic meters per hour. This is divided into 30 cubic meters for reservoir water and 30 cubic meters for excess water, along with another unit capable of 300 cubic meters. The plant will include a 200 cubic meter reservoir for drinking water and a 100 cubic meter reservoir for excess water.

A recent inspection was conducted by Ali Al-Geil, a member of the Egyptian Parliament, along with Saeed Fawzi, deputy head of the North and South Sinai Water Company, and Mohamed Nabiel Al-Kashif, head of the Rafah Water Sector. They oversaw the construction of the well and the Al-Agira desalination plant in Al-Barth. The inspection included monitoring the completion of well drilling and the start of backfilling and preparation for installing necessary equipment.

The delegation also visited the administrative and residential building adjacent to the plant, which includes living quarters, a kitchen, and restrooms. This provides essential facilities for plant workers. The inspection aimed to ensure the project's progress and quality.

The Rafah City Council's efforts to improve water services are part of broader initiatives to enhance infrastructure in North Sinai. By providing a reliable source of drinking water, the council seeks to improve living conditions for residents in border areas.

The project has received appreciation from local leaders for its role in supporting sustainable development in the region. The water well and desalination plant are expected to significantly impact the community by providing a consistent and safe water supply.

The initiative reflects ongoing efforts to address water scarcity and improve service delivery in North Sinai. With the project's completion, residents of Al-Barth and surrounding areas can expect enhanced access to clean drinking water.
