The Qena Awqaf Directorate, under the supervision of Sheikh Muhammad Zaki Yunus, has continued its outreach and educational activities with 159 events across different mosques, administrations, and centers in Qena governorate. These events, held under the theme "Not Spreading Rumors," aim to promote religious and societal awareness, highlighting the risks associated with rumors and their negative impact on individuals and national stability.
The events addressed the dangers of rumors as a phenomenon threatening societal security and stability, leading to the spread of confusion, inciting strife, and eroding trust among community members. Emphasizing the importance of verifying information before sharing or publishing it, participants stressed the need to avoid acting on unverified information or news lacking credible evidence.
Islamic scholars and preachers from the Ministry of Awqaf cited Quranic verses, such as "O you who have believed, if there comes to you a dissolute person with information, then investigate" (Surah Al-Hujurat: 6), to underscore the obligation of verifying news. They highlighted that this verification is both a religious and moral duty, and that disseminating unchecked information can harm others and contribute to the spread of falsehoods and conflicts.
The events also referenced another Quranic verse, "And do not pursue that of which you have no knowledge. Indeed, the hearing, the sight, and the heart - all of those will be questioned" (Surah Al-Isra: 36), to illustrate that Muslims are accountable for what they convey through speech or publish on social media. Participants emphasized that words are a trust that should be used to benefit people, protect their rights, and safeguard society from strife.
The outreach programs stressed the importance of responsible engagement with social media, advising against sharing news, images, or videos without verifying their accuracy and source. They encouraged reliance on official channels and credible sources for information and discouraged the dissemination of content aimed at instilling fear, skepticism, or sectarianism among citizens.
Islamic scholars and preachers noted that countering rumors is a shared responsibility requiring awareness, vigilance, and responsible use of communication tools. They advocated for fostering a culture of verification, responsible dialogue, and promoting values of truthfulness, integrity, and restraint in speech, all of which contribute to protecting society from misinformation and securing national stability.
The Qena Awqaf Directorate affirmed its commitment to continuing its outreach and educational activities across various administrations and mosques under its jurisdiction. These efforts aim to propagate correct religious teachings, solidify moral and national values, enhance societal awareness, and address ideas and behaviors threatening societal stability, ultimately contributing to the development of an informed and responsible society.
