The Egyptian poultry sector has witnessed significant growth in recent years, with investments exceeding 200 billion pounds, according to Dr. Tarek Soliman, head of the Animal Wealth and Poultry Development Sector. This growth has led to the creation of 3.5 million direct and indirect job opportunities. The sector has become a cornerstone of Egypt's food security and national economy.

On Tuesday, September 22, 2026, poultry prices in Egypt's stock exchange remained stable, ranging between 66 and 67 pounds per kilogram, according to Abdelaziz Sid, head of the Poultry Breeders Association at the Cairo Chamber of Commerce. The prices varied across regions, with consumers paying between 85 and 90 pounds per kilogram. The sector's production has also seen a significant increase, with 1.6 billion white chickens produced, compared to 1.4 billion last year, representing a 14% growth.

The Egyptian government is working to provide support to small and large producers, as well as open new export markets in Arab and African countries, and international markets. Egypt has been approved as one of the countries that apply the isolated poultry farm system, according to the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) regulations. This development is expected to boost the sector's growth and increase its contribution to the national economy.

The poultry sector in Egypt comprises over 27,000 diverse farms, including those producing table eggs, broiler chickens, parent stock, and specialized companies producing parent and grandparent stock. According to Agriculture Minister Alaa Farouk, these farms play a crucial role in meeting the country's poultry needs. The sector's growth has also led to an increase in the production of day-old chicks, with white chicks priced at 22-23 pounds and Saso chicks at 19-20 pounds.

In the general poultry stock exchange, prices for white chickens stood at 66 pounds per kilogram, while Saso chickens saw a decline of 5 pounds, priced at 115 pounds per kilogram. The price of white parent stock was 70 pounds per kilogram. The government is working to accelerate the opening of new markets to absorb the surplus local production, which has led to a surge in the sector.

Different stock exchanges had varying prices, with the "Mohamed Adel" stock exchange listing white chickens at 66 pounds, while the "Munir El-Saqa" stock exchange also listed white chickens at 66 pounds. Consumer prices for local chickens ranged between 140 and 145 pounds, and Saso chickens were priced at 140 pounds. The sector's growth has led to an increase in the number of jobs created, both directly and indirectly.

The Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture is working to provide easy financing for breeders, in cooperation with the National Bank of Egypt and the Agricultural Bank of Egypt, to support the purchase of production requirements, such as feed, day-old chicks, and veterinary medicines. This support aims to increase production efficiency and economic returns, ultimately contributing to the sector's continued growth and stability.
