The Egyptian poultry industry has seen significant growth in recent years, with the sector now representing one of the main pillars of the country's food security and national economy. According to Abdelaziz El-Sayed, head of the poultry wealth department at the Cairo Chamber of Commerce, poultry prices have stabilized at 66-67 pounds per kilo at the farm.
The Egyptian government is working to provide support to small and large producers, while also seeking to open up new export markets in Arab and African countries, as well as international markets. This comes after Egypt was approved as one of the countries that apply the system of isolated poultry farms according to the regulations of the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH).
The poultry sector in Egypt comprises over 27,000 diverse farms, including those producing table eggs, broiler chickens, parent chickens, as well as specialized companies producing parent and grandparent chickens. Egyptian Minister of Agriculture, Alaa Farouk, noted that the sector has achieved significant growth, with the country now producing 2.3 billion doses of veterinary vaccines annually, up from 120 million doses previously.
The prices of white poultry have ranged from 85 to 90 pounds per kilo, depending on the region. Meanwhile, the prices of Romy poultry have ranged from 150 to 160 pounds per kilo in the local market. The production of table eggs has reached 16 billion eggs, up from 14 billion eggs in the previous year.
The production of local breed chickens has reached 360 million birds, representing an increase of over 12%. The prices of duck meat have stabilized at 130-140 pounds per kilo. The Ministry of Agriculture is working to accelerate the process of opening up new markets to absorb the surplus local production.
According to the prices of Minir Al-Saqa, the price of white chicken has reached 66 pounds, while the price of Saso chicken has reached 119 pounds. The poultry sector provides direct and indirect job opportunities for around 3.5 million citizens.
The production of white chickens has reached 1.6 billion birds, up from 1.4 billion birds in the previous year, representing a growth rate of 14%. The prices of chicks have stabilized at 21-22 pounds in the local market. The poultry sector in Egypt has achieved an unprecedented investment and production boom in recent years, with the volume of investments in the sector exceeding 200 billion pounds.
