Egypt's poultry sector has seen significant growth in recent years, with investments exceeding 200 billion EGP. According to Dr. Tarek Suleiman, head of the Animal Wealth and Poultry Development Sector, the industry has achieved a remarkable investment and production boom. This growth has led to increased production, with white chicken production rising to 1.6 billion birds, a 14% increase from the previous year.

On Saturday, October 3, 2026, poultry prices in Egypt's local markets rose, with white chicken prices ranging from 90 to 95 EGP/kg, depending on the region. According to Abdelaziz Sid, head of the Poultry Wealth Division at the Cairo Chamber of Commerce, prices increased by around 5 EGP. The sector provides employment opportunities for approximately 3.5 million people, both directly and indirectly.

The poultry sector in Egypt comprises over 27,000 diverse farms, including those producing table eggs, broiler chickens, parent stock, and companies specializing in producing parent and grandparent stock. Minister of Agriculture, Alaa Farouk, highlighted the significance of these farms in the country's agricultural landscape. Meanwhile, prices for local and Saso chickens reached 140-145 EGP and 140 EGP, respectively.

In the general poultry market, prices for white chicken reached 75 EGP/kg. The Ministry of Agriculture aims to accelerate the opening of new markets to absorb the surplus local production, given the sector's rapid growth. Furthermore, Saso chicken prices increased by 3 EGP to 112 EGP/kg, while white parent stock prices reached 75 EGP in farm gate prices.

Various poultry market prices were reported, including those from Mohamed Adel, which listed white chicken at 75 EGP. The Egyptian government is working to provide support to small and large producers, as well as explore new export markets in Arab, African, and international markets. This comes after Egypt was recognized as one of the countries applying the isolated poultry farm system, as per the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) regulations.

Other market reports indicated that prices at the Minir El-Saka market rose by 5 EGP, reaching 75 EGP for white chicken. The Ministry of Agriculture collaborates with the National Bank of Egypt and the Agricultural Bank of Egypt to provide financing for breeders, enabling them to purchase necessary production inputs such as feed, chicks, and veterinary medicines.

The prices of chicks also varied, with white chicks ranging from 22 to 27 EGP and Saso chicks between 19 and 20 EGP. Meanwhile, kilogram prices for white parent stock reached 75 EGP. With ongoing efforts to boost the poultry sector, Egypt aims to maintain its growth trajectory and reinforce its position as a significant player in the global market.
