This growth has created substantial job opportunities, directly and indirectly employing around 3.5 million citizens. The sector's expansion has contributed to the country's economic development.
The production of white chickens has increased to 1.6 billion birds, up from 1.4 billion birds last year, representing a 14% growth rate, according to Dr. Tarek El-Sleman. Egypt has also made significant strides in increasing its production capacity for veterinary vaccines, rising to 2.3 billion doses annually, compared to 120 million doses previously, as stated by Agriculture Minister Dr. Alaa Farouk.
In the local market, white poultry prices range from 85 to 90 EGP per kilo, depending on the region. Meanwhile, Romy poultry prices range from 150 to 160 EGP per kilo. The growth in poultry production has also led to an increase in egg production, reaching 16 billion eggs, up from 14 billion eggs last year.
The production of local breed poultry has reached 360 million birds, representing a 12% increase, according to Dr. Tarek El-Sleman. Additionally, duck prices start at 130-140 EGP per kilo. The Egyptian poultry sector comprises over 27,000 diverse farms, including those producing table eggs, broiler chickens, parent stock, and specialized companies producing parent and grandparent stock.
According to Minir El-Saka, prices for white poultry are at 72 EGP, while Saso poultry prices have increased by two EGP to 107 EGP. The poultry industry is a vital component of Egypt's food security and national economy. The government aims to support small and large producers, exploring new export markets in Arab, African, and international markets.
The prices of chicks in the local market range from 26 to 27 EGP. The Ministry of Agriculture is working to expedite the opening of new markets to absorb the surplus local production, given the current boom in the poultry sector.
