Egyptian Planning Minister, Ahmed Rustom, recently held a high-level meeting with leaders from the World Bank Group and representatives from several international financial and development institutions. The meeting aimed to review the progress and final steps towards launching the Infrastructure Financing Guarantee Facility (IFGF) in Egypt. This initiative is considered a pioneering model for innovative financing and attracting private sector investments.

The meeting was attended by representatives from various international and regional institutions, including the African Development Bank, the European Investment Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, among others. Minister Rustom emphasized that the development of this mechanism, in collaboration with the World Bank, aligns with presidential directives and comprehensive national efforts for structural economic reform.

The IFGF aims to find innovative, long-term financing solutions in local currency and reduce investment risks, directly contributing to alleviating pressures on the state's general budget and enhancing public spending efficiency. The Ministry is working closely with the World Bank and relevant national authorities to ensure the rapid activation of the mechanism, focusing on vital economic and service sectors.

These sectors include renewable energy, water treatment and desalination plants, and modern transportation projects, which align with Egypt's Vision 2030 and support growth and employment rates. The meeting saw significant interest from participating international financial and development institutions, which expressed their eagerness and readiness to join the new mechanism and provide necessary guarantees and financing solutions.

The World Bank team presented a detailed overview of the project's progress, the stages of launching the mechanism, and the timeline for its operational start. They emphasized that the IFGF reflects the growing strategic partnership with the Egyptian government and reiterated the bank's commitment to sharing international best practices to mitigate financing risks and provide technical and advisory support.
