The New Valley Governorate in Egypt has recently inaugurated a comprehensive handicraft complex in Merzouk village, which is part of the Balat center. This initiative aims to provide a range of services and job opportunities for the local community, while supporting small-scale entrepreneurs and artisans. The complex spans an area of 1000 square meters and comprises 10 units, each with an average area of 28 square meters.
The complex offers a diverse range of activities, including tailoring and clothing design, knitting and crochet, blacksmithing, aluminum and glasswork, carpentry, car mechanics and electrical services, tire maintenance and repair, and motorcycle mechanics. These services cater to the daily needs of the local population and provide a one-stop platform for various activities that were previously scattered.
The complex has been equipped with essential infrastructure, including a dedicated electric transformer, a main control room, an independent water line, and separate sewage systems for each unit. Additionally, the complex features a comprehensive fire protection and safety system, as well as separate restrooms for men and women, ensuring a suitable working environment for employees.
The complex is expected to serve as a hub for supporting local artisans and small-scale entrepreneurs, providing them with a well-equipped space to practice their crafts and services. The presence of tailoring, knitting, and crochet activities will also enable women and female artisans to participate in productive activities, promoting women's economic empowerment and enhancing their job opportunities.
The inauguration of the complex was attended by several high-ranking officials, including Dr. Manal Awad, Minister of Local Development and Environment, Dr. Hanan Majdi, Governor of New Valley, and Brigadier General Amr Abdel Monem, Head of the Sahel Development Authority. The project is part of a broader effort to expand handicraft and productive projects in the governorates of Upper Egypt.
The complex is anticipated to create job opportunities for young people, women, and artisans, while providing essential services to the local community. By bringing various activities together in one location, the complex aims to promote a more organized and efficient working environment.
The New Valley Governorate's initiative is expected to contribute to the development of local industries and enhance the quality of services offered to citizens. The complex will also provide a platform for small-scale entrepreneurs to develop their projects and expand their customer base.
