The Egyptian National Railway Industries Company, known as Nerk, is preparing to launch a technology school in East Port Said, focusing on railway and automotive industries. The school's establishment is a collaborative effort with the Port Said governorate and the Ministry of Education. The initiative was welcomed by Port Said Governor, Major General Ibrahim Abu Lomon, as part of a broader strategy to link technical education outputs with labor market requirements. In July, the governor discussed cooperation with Nerk leaders on training technical education students and establishing the technology school. This move aims to provide students with hands-on experience and skills aligned with the latest industrial and technological systems.
Nerk's Human Resources Manager, Ahmed Latif, stated that the current focus is on preparing the school's curricula, which will include specializations in railway and automotive industries. This will enable students to acquire academic knowledge and practical skills in a real industrial environment. The financing of the school will be a collaborative effort between the involved parties.
Students at the school will receive practical training on operating equipment and handling materials used in the targeted industries. Additionally, they will be provided with financial allowances and benefits during their training periods, encouraging them to pursue technical specializations and enhancing their readiness for the job market.
Nerk is also working on preparing its own cadres to transfer technical expertise to new employees. The company has implemented training programs in collaboration with Korean partners for engineers and supervisors, aiming to develop their capabilities and qualify them to transfer modern technologies and expertise to workers at the factory.
The establishment of the technology school is part of Nerk's broader training and qualification system, especially given the needs of the Nerk complex in East Port Said for specialized technical cadres. The company is also focusing on qualifying suppliers and workers in the surrounding integrated industrial zone, which is expected to provide additional opportunities for training and logistical services.
Nerk has recently organized a job fair in Port Said, aiming to provide around 150 job opportunities in the first phase, as part of its plan to expand its technical and engineering workforce. The company targets increasing its operational capacity to around 600 workers and engineers, in line with the production stages and future expansions.
