Egypt's Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade has confirmed that it will continue to enforce its decision to set prices for tourist and fine bread, known as "khobz siwahi" and "faino". The Ministry has warned bakeries that they will face penalties if they fail to comply with the set prices. The Ministry has intensified its monitoring of bakeries and markets to ensure that they adhere to the set prices and weights of bread.

According to a Ministry source, all bakeries are required to adhere to the set prices and weights of bread, and any attempts to manipulate prices or reduce weights will not be tolerated. The Ministry has stated that it will take swift action against any bakeries found to be in non-compliance. The Ministry's efforts aim to protect consumers from exploitation and ensure that they have access to bread at fair prices.

The Minister of Supply and Internal Trade, Dr. Sharif Farouk, has instructed all directorates and regulatory bodies to increase their on-site inspections of bakeries, markets, and commercial establishments. The goal is to verify that prices are clearly displayed and that the weights and specifications of bread meet the required standards. The Ministry is also working to ensure the quality and safety of products available to consumers.

Dr. Farouk emphasized that monitoring markets is an ongoing process and not a temporary campaign. The Ministry will continue to follow up on the results of its campaigns and respond promptly to any complaints or reports related to prices, weights, or product quality. The protection of consumer rights and market regulation are top priorities for the Ministry.

A recent intensive campaign in the city of Esna, Luxor Governorate, resulted in 36 violations being recorded, including selling bread at prices higher than the set rate, producing underweight bread, and failing to display prices. Other infractions included producing bread that did not meet specifications, poor cleanliness of baking equipment, and operating establishments without licenses.

The Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade has announced that it will continue its campaigns in Luxor and other governorates to regulate markets and ensure that bakeries comply with laws and regulations. Any violations detected will be addressed through legal measures. Dr. Farouk stressed that any attempts to manipulate bread prices or weights will be met with decisive action.

The Ministry's efforts aim to ensure that consumers have access to bread at fair prices and that bakeries operate in a fair and transparent manner. The Ministry's monitoring and enforcement activities will continue to ensure that markets remain regulated and that consumer rights are protected.
