Egypt's Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Dr. Mahmoud Essmat, announced that the Dabaa nuclear power plant, with a capacity of 4800 megawatts, is expected to generate 37,843 gigawatt-hours per year. This will result in significant savings of 7.902 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually. The minister made these remarks during a seminar organized by the National Press Authority, under the title "Electricity Sector: Achievements and Future Plans."

The Dabaa nuclear power plant is considered an environmentally friendly project that will provide substantial economic benefits. Dr. Essmat emphasized that the plant's operation will not only save natural gas but also create around 30,000 job opportunities. The minister highlighted the innovative approach of using seawater desalination technology for cooling the reactor, a joint Egyptian-Russian proposal.

According to Dr. Essmat, the nuclear fuel for the plant is expected to arrive in Egypt in May 2027, with strict safety measures in place. The plant's commercial operation is scheduled to begin between 2029 and 2030. The minister stressed that integrating nuclear and renewable energy sources into the energy mix will yield significant economic benefits and reduce natural gas consumption.

The minister provided an economic analysis, stating that the plant's operation between 2026 and 2030 will result in savings of approximately $13.786 billion, based on a price of $8 per million British thermal units. If calculated at $20 per million British thermal units, the savings will increase to $40.210 billion.

Dr. Essmat also discussed the importance of updating the national energy strategy every three years to ensure grid stability. He emphasized the need for a balanced energy mix that includes nuclear, renewable, and traditional energy sources. The minister highlighted the significance of the Dabaa nuclear power plant in achieving this goal and reducing Egypt's reliance on natural gas.

The National Press Authority organized the seminar to discuss the achievements and future plans of the electricity sector. The event was attended by various stakeholders, including journalists and experts in the energy field. Dr. Essmat's presentation provided valuable insights into Egypt's energy strategy and the benefits of the Dabaa nuclear power plant.

The Dabaa nuclear power plant is a significant project that will contribute to Egypt's energy security and economic growth. The plant's construction is part of Egypt's efforts to diversify its energy sources and reduce its reliance on natural gas. With its expected completion in 2029-2030, the plant will play a crucial role in meeting Egypt's increasing energy demands.
