Dr. Mohamed Farid, Egypt's Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade and Chairman of the Egyptian Sovereign Fund, recently met with a delegation from S&P Global Ratings led by Ravi Bhatia, Managing Director and Chief Credit Rating Officer. They discussed the current state of Egypt's economy, investment prospects, and the government's efforts to enhance the business environment and implement economic reforms. The meeting highlighted the government's commitment to creating a more attractive investment climate.

According to Dr. Farid, the government is implementing a comprehensive package of structural and institutional reforms aimed at facilitating business operations, increasing economic competitiveness, and creating a more attractive environment for local and foreign investments. One of the key initiatives is the launch of the "Economic Entities Platform," a digital window that allows for the establishment of companies, obtaining licenses and approvals, and submitting data and documents. This platform is being developed in coordination with nearly 90 government agencies and institutions.

The platform aims to reduce bureaucratic procedures and enable investors to track various approvals and licenses through a more integrated "investor journey." Dr. Farid also mentioned that the government plans to expand the creation of investment zones across provinces, with a goal of establishing 8-9 new zones over the next 2-3 years. This expansion is expected to attract investments, create job opportunities near population centers, and support women's participation in the labor market.

Dr. Farid emphasized that the government is adopting a more effective approach to attracting foreign direct investment by targeting specific sectors and engaging directly with companies. This approach is based on a foreign direct investment strategy developed in collaboration with the World Bank, which identifies 12 promising sectors to attract new investment flows and maximize the value added to the Egyptian economy. The Ministry is working with various government agencies to prepare a package of ready and executable investment opportunities in sectors such as healthcare, tourism, housing, and energy.

The Ministry is also working to develop legislation and procedures related to investment and support increased private sector participation. Dr. Farid stressed the importance of developing an economic data collection system and enhancing disclosure and governance. The government is working on electronically linking the disclosure system with foreign direct investment and relevant agencies to improve the quality of economic data and increase the efficiency of measuring investment flows according to international standards.

Ravi Bhatia from S&P Global Ratings praised Egypt's economic and investment potential, citing its market size, geographical location, and infrastructure development. He emphasized the importance of continued institutional and digital reforms, particularly in simplifying procedures, improving transparency, and providing economic data. Bhatia noted that these efforts will enhance investor confidence and support the economy's ability to achieve sustainable growth.

The meeting between Dr. Farid and S&P Global Ratings reflects the government's ongoing efforts to engage with international investors and rating agencies to promote Egypt's economic prospects and investment opportunities. The discussions highlighted the government's commitment to implementing reforms and improving the business environment to attract investments and drive sustainable economic growth.
