The Egyptian Interior Ministry has begun a trial run of a single-window system for vehicle licensing at all traffic units. This new system aims to simplify the process of obtaining and renewing driving licenses and vehicle registrations, while also reducing the financial burden on citizens. The system allows citizens to pay all fees related to licensing through a single window, with the option of electronic payment.
According to Lieutenant General Ahmed Hesham, a traffic expert, the new system provides citizens with a clear understanding of the fees required through an explanatory board inside the traffic unit. This transparency enables citizens to complete all transactions without additional costs, except for the fees required for violation certificates. The new system also eliminates fees for safety and emergency equipment, such as first-aid kits and fire extinguishers.
However, the elimination of fees for safety equipment does not mean that they will no longer be required. These items are still essential for protecting drivers and passengers in the event of an emergency or breakdown. Lieutenant General Hesham emphasized that the goal of the new system is not only to reduce financial burdens but also to promote a culture of traffic safety and protect citizens' lives and property.
The new system also offers discounts on licensing fees, ranging from 400 to 600 pounds for car registrations and 500 to 750 pounds for motorcycle registrations, depending on the type of vehicle and registration year. Additionally, citizens can pay traffic violations within 72 hours of notification and benefit from reduced fines. Traffic violations are handled by the Public Prosecution, and citizens can submit complaints and pay fees through designated channels.
Mobile traffic units are also available to allow citizens to complete licensing and technical inspection procedures at their place of residence or work for an additional 400 pounds. This service aims to save citizens time and effort. Lieutenant General Hesham stressed the importance of adhering to traffic rules and regulations, emphasizing that the new system's goals extend beyond financial savings to promoting a culture of traffic safety.
The Interior Ministry's initiative is part of a broader effort to improve public services and reduce bureaucracy. The single-window system is designed to streamline the licensing process, making it more efficient and convenient for citizens. By providing a clear and transparent process, the ministry aims to enhance citizen satisfaction and trust in public services.
The trial run of the single-window system is an important step towards modernizing and improving the vehicle licensing process in Egypt. If successful, the system will be expanded to all traffic units nationwide, providing citizens with a more efficient and convenient way to obtain and renew their licenses.
