The Egyptian Ministry of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities has announced the details of a rent subsidy for low-income families who have applied for rental apartments under the "Housing for All Egyptians 9" initiative. According to the ministry, the subsidy will be provided based on the family's monthly income and the market rental value of the unit. The initiative aims to provide affordable housing options for low- and middle-income families.
The subsidy will vary depending on the family's monthly income. Families with a monthly income of 5,000 Egyptian pounds will receive a monthly subsidy ranging from 750 to 1,750 pounds, depending on the market rental value of the unit, which ranges from 2,000 to 3,000 pounds. Families with a monthly income of 8,000 pounds will receive a monthly subsidy ranging from 2,000 to 3,000 pounds, with a market rental value ranging from 4,000 to 5,000 pounds.
For families with a monthly income of 10,000 pounds, the monthly subsidy will be 1,500 pounds for a market rental value of 4,000 pounds, and 2,500 pounds for a market rental value of 5,000 pounds. Families with a monthly income of 12,000 pounds will receive a monthly subsidy of 1,000 pounds for a market rental value of 4,000 pounds, and 2,000 pounds for a market rental value of 5,000 pounds.
The Ministry of Housing has stated that the maximum value of the subsidy provided by the Social Housing and Real Estate Finance Fund is 100,000 pounds, which will be provided over the duration of the rental period. The subsidy value will be determined based on the applicant's income and the size of the residential unit. The initiative aims to reduce the financial burden on eligible citizens by capping the rental value at 25% of their income.
The "Housing for All Egyptians 9" initiative has offered 15,000 units for rent, with a minimum applicant income of 5,000 pounds per month in provinces and 8,000 pounds per month in new cities, and a maximum income of 16,000 pounds per month. The units have areas ranging from 75 to 100 square meters, and applicants can request to own the unit after at least one year of regular payments.
To apply for the rental apartments, citizens must pay a registration fee of 365 pounds, which is non-refundable, through the official website of the Egypt Digital Platform. The registration period for people with disabilities began on September 20, 2026, and will end on September 27, 2026, while the registration period for all citizens will start on September 28, 2026, and end on October 28, 2026.
Upon successful application, citizens will be required to pay a 10,000-pound security deposit, equivalent to three months' rent, which will be refundable under certain conditions. After completing the application process, citizens will be required to sign a contract and pay the first month's rent, as well as 250 pounds in maintenance, management, and collection fees.
