Egypt is preparing to launch the trial operation of its high-speed electric train network, starting with one of the sectors on the first line from Ain Sokhna to El Alamain and Matruh. The trial run, set to begin in early October 2026, will initially operate without passengers. This marks a significant step towards completing the network, which aims to provide a rapid transportation system connecting various cities and governorates.

The first line of the high-speed train network, stretching 660 kilometers from Ain Sokhna to El Alamain and Matruh, is a key part of the project. This line is also part of the Sokhna-Dokhila logistics corridor. The network is designed to consist of three lines with a total length of 2000 kilometers, enhancing connectivity across the country.

The travel times for the first line of the high-speed train have been announced. For instance, the trip from Cairo to Alexandria will take 1 hour and 25 minutes, while Cairo to El Alamain will take 1 hour and 40 minutes. Longer routes, such as Cairo to Matruh, will take 2 hours and 35 minutes. These times are expected to significantly reduce travel durations between major cities.

The first line of the high-speed train network will feature 21 stations, along with a control and command center. The operational plan includes 15 high-speed trains and 34 regional trains, as well as 14 locomotives for freight transport. This comprehensive setup is designed to meet the demands of both passenger and freight traffic.

The full-scale operation of the high-speed train network, with passengers on board, is scheduled to commence once the technical tests are completed. This includes preparing the electrified tracks and securing the routes. The project is a major infrastructure development aimed at modernizing Egypt's transportation system.

The high-speed train network is a priority project for Egypt, aiming to provide an efficient and rapid transportation solution. By connecting major cities and economic zones, the network is expected to boost economic growth and improve the quality of life for residents. The project is being implemented in phases, with the first line being a crucial part of this ambitious plan.

Once completed, the high-speed train network will have a significant impact on Egypt's transportation sector. With its planned 2000 kilometers of track, the network will offer unparalleled connectivity and speed, making it a vital component of the country's infrastructure. The successful implementation of this project will be a major milestone in Egypt's development.
