Egyptian Health Minister Khalid Abdel Ghaffar chaired the first meeting of a committee tasked with accelerating the implementation of a comprehensive health insurance system across the country. The committee reviewed a proposal by the General Authority for Healthcare to accelerate the implementation of the comprehensive health insurance system. Abdel Ghaffar highlighted the importance of adopting non-traditional working mechanisms to achieve the plan within a maximum of 10 years. The committee discussed key aspects of accelerating implementation while ensuring the quality of services and sustainability.

The meeting resulted in several decisions and recommendations, including preparing a comprehensive vision for implementing the system based on a future timeline and estimated costs. The committee also recommended completing health planning for governorates and studying a plan to increase the revenues and capital of the comprehensive health insurance fund.

The committee discussed the possibility of including Alexandria governorate in the plan to implement the comprehensive health insurance system, alongside working in parallel in various governorates to accelerate implementation rates. A comprehensive plan will be prepared to complete the coverage of 50% of the population with the health insurance system by 2030.

The implementation plan will prioritize governorate readiness, service quality, and funding sustainability. The minister assured that the plan will be executed according to a specific timeline and realistic targets.
