The Grand Egyptian Museum, one of Egypt's most anticipated tourist attractions, has welcomed nearly 4 million visitors since its official opening in November last year until the end of August. This significant milestone was announced during a meeting of the museum's board of directors, chaired by Egyptian Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Sharif Fathy. The meeting took place at the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization.
The museum's CEO, Dr. Ahmed Ghoneim, presented an overview of the museum's activities and events since its opening. Notably, the museum has hosted several high-profile visitors, including Egyptian President and his spouse, as well as Chinese President and his spouse, who visited the museum in early September as part of the Chinese President's official visit to Egypt.
According to Dr. Ghoneim, the museum's visitor numbers have started to rise in line with the new tourist season. The meeting also saw the approval of the previous session's minutes and the discussion and adoption of the museum's financial statements and modified final accounts for the fiscal year 2025/2026.
The board of directors approved the acceptance of a donation from the French side, within the framework of the Egyptian-French cooperation project in the field of antiquities. The donation includes a number of devices to measure humidity in the museum's display halls, which will contribute to supporting the preventive conservation system.
The museum's board of directors was also informed about several memoranda of understanding that are being worked on to be signed. These aim to enhance cooperation between the Grand Egyptian Museum and a number of international universities and archaeological museums.
Minister Sharif Fathy directed the museum's officials to take the necessary executive measures in this regard. The meeting was attended by members of the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics and members of the administration concerned with financial and administrative affairs at the museum.
The Grand Egyptian Museum is considered one of the largest museums in the world dedicated to the history and culture of ancient Egypt. Its opening is expected to significantly boost Egypt's tourism industry, which is a major contributor to the country's economy.
