Egypt's Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty participated in a consultative meeting of Arab foreign ministers and a working dinner with the US Chamber of Commerce in New York on Monday, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly's high-level session. Abdelatty emphasized the need for a unified Arab position on the Palestinian cause, calling for effective joint action to end the occupation, protect the Palestinian people, and restore their legitimate rights. He also urged US companies to expand their investments in Egypt, highlighting the country's competitive advantages and investment opportunities.
During the consultative meeting, Abdelatty addressed the Palestinian cause, stating that it is at a historic turning point that demands a unified Arab position and effective joint action. He called for sustained and coordinated Arab pressure to secure a firmer international stance against Israeli violations, halt settlement expansion and annexation, and preserve the unity of Palestinian territory. Abdelatty reiterated Egypt's full condemnation of Iranian missile and drone attacks that have targeted Arab states this year, rejecting any violation of their sovereignty, security, or territorial integrity.
Abdelatty also stressed the need for a political settlement to the Yemeni crisis that preserves the country's unity and territorial integrity. He underlined the importance of resolving disputes between Arab states through direct dialogue and diplomatic channels within the Arab framework, preserving Arab unity and strengthening joint Arab action. The renewed call for diplomacy comes months after Washington and Tehran signed the Islamabad memorandum of understanding on 17 June, a framework Egypt has urged both sides to build on to de-escalate the wider regional conflict.
Separately, Abdelatty attended a working dinner with the US Chamber of Commerce, where he stressed the strategic nature of Egyptian-American relations and the need to expand economic, trade, and investment cooperation. He reviewed measures taken by the Egyptian government to improve the investment climate and streamline procedures for investors, alongside the continued implementation of its economic reform programme and restructuring of the state's role in the economy. Abdelatty highlighted Egypt's competitive advantages and investment opportunities, citing its strategic location, access to regional and international markets, and extensive infrastructure development.
Abdelatty urged US companies to expand their investments in Egypt, particularly in telecommunications, information technology, digitalization, healthcare, and energy. The dinner also addressed regional developments and their repercussions for the global economy, supply chains, and energy and commodity markets. Abdelatty stressed the need to resolve crises through political and diplomatic means to end the cycle of escalation and instability.
The minister reiterated Egypt's longstanding position on the Palestinian cause, foremost among its principles the establishment of an independent, sovereign Palestinian state on the 4 June 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital, and an end to settlement activity and occupation. This position was overwhelmingly endorsed in a UN General Assembly vote last September. Abdelatty's meetings in New York reflect Egypt's continued engagement with international partners on key regional issues.
Abdelatty's visit to New York also follows a pattern of engagement with the US business community. He held a similar meeting with US Chamber of Commerce leaders on the sidelines of last year's UN General Assembly session in September 2025, when he likewise urged American companies to localize supply chains and establish production platforms in Egypt. Egypt is seeking to strengthen its economic ties with the US and attract foreign investment to support its economic growth.
