Egypt's food exports have seen a significant surge, with the country exporting around 190,000 tons of food products in just one week. This was achieved through 4,333 food messages, according to the National Authority for Food Safety's 38th weekly report for 2026. The report, which covers the period from October 3 to 9, also revealed that food imports stood at approximately 235,000 tons via 2,265 messages. The exports were carried out by 1,454 companies and included around 770 types of food products.

The National Authority for Food Safety's report highlighted that the exported food products included vegetables, potatoes, fruits, and various processed foods. A total of 51,000 tons of Egyptian vegetables were exported, with potatoes topping the list at 16,000 tons, followed by onions at 13,000 tons, and beans at 10,000 tons. The report also showed that 35 types of vegetables were exported during the week. This significant export volume demonstrates Egypt's growing presence in the global food market.

In the fruit category, Egypt exported 30,000 tons of various fruits, with 26 types of fruits being shipped to international markets. Pomegranates led the fruit exports at 10,000 tons, followed by strawberries at 8,000 tons, and mangoes at 7,000 tons. The diversity of Egyptian fruit exports highlights the country's rich agricultural produce and its ability to cater to different international markets.

Saudi Arabia and Sudan emerged as the top importers of Egyptian food products during the week, followed by Jordan, the UAE, and the Netherlands. A total of 163 countries imported Egyptian food products, showcasing the global demand for Egyptian produce. The National Authority for Food Safety's efforts to enhance the country's food export capabilities have contributed to this growth.

The report also revealed that the Port of Safaga led the export messages with 755 messages, followed by the Port of Damietta with 600 messages, and the Port of Alexandria with 555 messages. To support Egypt's food exports, the National Authority for Food Safety issued 1,810 health certificates for export during the week. These certificates ensure that Egyptian products meet international safety standards, boosting confidence in Egyptian exports.

On the import side, Egypt received 2,265 food messages with a total of 235,000 tons of food products. The imports were carried out by 940 companies and included various products such as wheat, soybeans, and oils. Russia was the top exporter to Egypt during the week, followed by the United States, Ukraine, Indonesia, and Canada. A total of 84 countries exported food products to Egypt.

The Port of Alexandria received the highest number of import messages at 790, followed by the Port of Port Said with 401 messages, and Cairo International Airport with 337 messages. The National Authority for Food Safety also cleared 1,888 food messages during the week, ensuring that all products met the required safety standards.
