The Egyptian fish market experienced stability in prices on Sunday, October 11, 2026, as reported by fish traders. The price of Mackerel fish ranged between 100 and 170 Egyptian pounds per kilogram for consumers. Meanwhile, the price of Denes fish varied between 350 and 475 pounds per kilogram. According to official data, the average Egyptian citizen consumes 18 kilograms of fish per year, which is slightly lower than the global average of 20 kilograms per year.

The price of Bult fish, a popular variety in Egypt, ranged between 85 and 100 pounds per kilogram, depending on the region. Egypt's aquaculture industry began in 2015, under the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, to utilize the country's strategic location on the Mediterranean Sea, the Red Sea, and the Suez Canal. This initiative aimed to boost the country's fish production and meet the growing demand for seafood.

The price of Bori fish was reported to be around 175-250 pounds per kilogram. Aquaculture has become the primary source of fish production in Egypt, accounting for over 80-85% of the country's total fish production, which stands at approximately 1.6 million tons. The remaining 15-20% comes from natural sources, including the Nile River, the Mediterranean Sea, the Red Sea, and Egyptian lakes.

Egypt has made significant strides in aquaculture, ranking first in Africa and sixth globally in this sector. The country's large-scale projects, such as the Berka Ghlyoun city in Kafr El Sheikh, have played a crucial role in achieving this position. These projects adhere to international standards and have contributed to the growth of Egypt's fish production.

In addition to Berka Ghlyoun, other projects like the East Suez Canal in Ismailia and the Dibba area in Port Said have been instrumental in promoting aquaculture in Egypt. These projects include thousands of fish farms, feed factories, and packaging facilities, which have helped to develop the sector and create job opportunities.

According to the official website of the Obour market, wholesale prices for various types of fish on Sunday were as follows: Bult fish ranged between 59 and 64 pounds per kilogram, while Bori fish prices varied between 100 and 240 pounds per kilogram. The prices of other fish types, such as Kapurya, snakes, and coral, also showed significant variation.

The prices of frozen fish in Egypt were also reported, with Mackerel frozen fish ranging between 30 and 60 pounds per kilogram. Egypt's total fish production stands at approximately 2.2 million tons per year, with 1,571,000 tons coming from aquaculture and 456,000 tons from natural sources. The country's fish production has enabled it to achieve a self-sufficiency rate of 92-93.5%.
