The average annual consumption of eggs per person in Egypt is around 140 eggs, according to Agriculture Minister Alaa Farouk. To support small and large producers, the government is providing support and working to open new export markets in Arab, African, and international countries. Egypt has been recognized as one of the countries that applies the isolated poultry farm system, in line with the regulations of the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH).
The price of eggs in Egypt has stabilized, with the price of white eggs at 130 EGP per carton for consumers, and red eggs at 135 EGP per carton. The price of local breed eggs is 140 EGP per carton. According to Abdelaziz Sid, head of the Poultry Wealth Committee at the Cairo Chamber of Commerce, egg prices at farms range from 110 to 120 EGP per carton.
The poultry sector in Egypt comprises over 27,000 diverse farms, including those producing table eggs, broiler chickens, parent stock, and companies specializing in producing parent and grandparent stock. The sector provides direct and indirect job opportunities for around 3.5 million citizens, according to Dr. Tarek Suleiman.
The government has made significant strides in increasing the production capacity of veterinary vaccines, which has risen to 2.3 billion doses annually, compared to 120 million doses previously. This development is expected to enhance the health and productivity of the poultry sector.
The Ministry of Agriculture is working to expedite the process of opening new markets to absorb the surplus local production, given the current boom in the poultry sector. The ministry is also providing financing options for breeders in collaboration with the National Bank of Egypt and the Egyptian Agricultural Bank to support the purchase of production requirements.
