Egyptian Minister of Education Mohamed Abdellatif recently met with a delegation from Germany's GIZ agency, led by Andreas Adrian, to discuss cooperation on developing vocational education and expanding applied technology schools. The meeting aimed to enhance their partnership and explore new avenues for collaboration. The Egyptian delegation included Ayman Bahaa El-Din, Deputy Minister, and Amr Basila, Head of the Central Administration for Vocational Education Development.

The two parties reviewed ongoing projects and programs, focusing on technical and vocational education development. Abdellatif emphasized the importance of their partnership with GIZ, highlighting its role in supporting Egypt's plans to develop vocational education and training. He noted that their cooperation covers key areas, including dual education and training, improving education quality, and developing teacher and staff skills.

Abdellatif outlined Egypt's comprehensive vision for vocational education development, aiming to enhance skills and competencies in line with labor market needs. The ministry plans to expand applied technology schools, which are based on direct and effective partnerships with the private sector. The goal is to increase the practical and applied components of education.

The minister stressed the need for continued coordination with GIZ, leveraging German expertise to improve vocational education. This cooperation will help prepare qualified technical cadres capable of competing in local and international job markets. Andreas Adrian reaffirmed GIZ's commitment to their partnership, praising the success of joint programs, particularly the second phase of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Improvement Project (TCTI II).

The two parties agreed to focus on several areas during the next phase, including developing an Egyptian-German model for applied technology schools. They also discussed transferring German expertise in school administration and vocational training, enhancing graduate employability locally and internationally. The meeting touched on developing commercial vocational education and reorienting specializations to align with future job requirements.

The discussions also covered updating curricula and programs based on competency-based approaches. The parties emphasized the importance of establishing institutional mechanisms to ensure regular review and development of these programs in line with technological advancements and labor market needs. They also highlighted the need for continued teacher and trainer capacity-building programs.

The meeting concluded with an agreement to build on their existing cooperation and expand programs supporting Egypt's vocational education development plan. The focus will be on enhancing partnerships with the private sector and aligning education with labor market needs, ultimately increasing graduate competitiveness in local and international job markets.
