A significant development in Egypt's industrial sector has emerged as a coalition of five major banks, including the Egyptian National Bank, Bank of Egypt, Cairo Bank, Egyptian Agricultural Bank, and Export Development Bank, has joined forces with CI Capital to restructure and revive struggling factories. This initiative aims to transform banks from mere lenders to stakeholders in projects, supporting the restart and development of these factories.

According to Karim Abdel Aziz, a member of the Investment and Finance Committee of the Egyptian Chambers of Commerce, the primary issue with many struggling factories is not just financing but also poor management. CI Capital's role will involve evaluating management and devising strategies for development and restructuring, while the banks will focus on financing by converting existing debts into equity.

The coalition is expected to prioritize essential industries and goods, such as baby food products, based on the nature and importance of their activities. The Ministry of Industry and Industrial Development possesses data on the conditions and reasons for the distress of these factories, which will aid the coalition in assessing the feasibility of reviving their production.

The initiative is crucial, given the current economic climate, with rising import, shipping, and raw material costs due to international crises and wars. Supporting local production can reduce reliance on foreign goods, save foreign currency, and bolster the national reserve. Abdel Aziz emphasized that the mechanism does not automatically entail injecting new financing but rather focuses on debt restructuring, management improvement, and identifying actual needs for each factory.

Approximately 6,000 factories are estimated to be struggling, though an accurate tally of their debts is not readily available. The coalition's efforts will involve possible collaboration with strategic investors in the future, post-development and restructuring of the projects. This approach aims to ensure sustainable solutions rather than temporary fixes.

The program "Economic Papers" on the Nile News channel recently discussed this initiative, highlighting its potential to revitalize Egypt's industrial sector. Experts and officials have been sharing insights on various economic matters, including the role of the BRICS nations in shaping the global economic system and Egypt's endeavors to localize technology and data centers.

In related news, various initiatives have been launched to support Egypt's industrial and economic growth. These include the "Shams El Sanat" program aimed at providing solar energy to 7,000 factories, and discussions on developing old industrial zones. The government's efforts to enhance the business environment and attract investment have been ongoing, with a focus on creating a more competitive and sustainable economy.
