The Egyptian Ministry of Health's Eastern Directorate announced on Friday that the medical team at Faqous Central Hospital's new cardiac catheterization unit successfully performed 12 various heart catheterizations in one day. This is the highest number of procedures conducted at the unit since its opening. The catheterizations included 7 diagnostic and 5 therapeutic procedures.
According to Dr. Ahmed El-Bili, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health in Eastern Egypt, the therapeutic catheterizations involved expanding arteries using balloons and installing stents according to each patient's medical condition. Two cases required the installation of 3 stents each, while two others required 2 stents each. One case required a single stent, and all procedures were successful with patients showing improvement and receiving necessary follow-up medical care.
These catheterizations were part of the fourth Surgical Day event organized by the Eastern Health Directorate. During the 24-hour event, 26 hospitals participated and performed a total of 1383 surgical, endoscopic, and cardiac catheterization procedures. This exceeded the 982 procedures achieved during the third Surgical Day event.
Faqous Central Hospital performed 142 procedures during the event, including 83 surgical operations, 16 ophthalmic procedures, 14 gastrointestinal endoscopies, 10 vascular surgeries, 4 orthopedic surgeries, and 3 maxillofacial surgeries. In addition to the 12 heart catheterizations, the hospital demonstrated its capacity to handle a large number of medical procedures.
Dr. Ahmed El-Bili emphasized that achieving this record reflects the efforts of specialized medical teams. He noted that the ministry will continue to support and develop medical departments, expanding the range of procedures and cardiac catheterizations to provide advanced medical services to patients within the province and reduce waiting lists.
This achievement aligns with directives from Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Health and Population, and Hazem El-Ashmouni, Governor of Eastern Egypt. The directives focus on improving and enhancing medical services provided to citizens, utilizing available medical capabilities and devices in hospitals.
Dr. Ahmed El-Bili expressed gratitude to the medical, administrative, and technical teams that participated in the Surgical Day event, acknowledging their efforts in delivering medical services to patients and improving healthcare in Eastern Egypt's hospitals.
