Eng. Rafeat Hendy, Egypt's Minister of Communications and Information Technology, inaugurated the 9th edition of DevOpsDays Cairo 2026. The conference is organized by the Software Engineering Capability Center (SECC) under the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA). This year's theme is "Sustainable DevOps Methodologies in the Era of Artificial Intelligence." The event brings together local and international experts in software engineering, infrastructure development, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity.
DevOpsDays is a global series of technical conferences held in over 60 cities worldwide. The conferences focus on software development, infrastructure operations, and integration. Cairo hosted the first DevOpsDays in the Arab region in 2018 and has since become the only Arab city to host the event. The conference has established itself as a platform for the DevOps community, experts, and specialists to exchange knowledge and explore the latest technical trends.
This year's conference discusses the impact of artificial intelligence on the software development lifecycle and operations. It also reviews practices that support building more efficient, reliable, and sustainable technological environments. These efforts aim to enhance the readiness of local companies and Egyptian cadres to meet the changing industry requirements and handle advanced technologies.
Eng. Rafeat Hendy highlighted the significant transformation in software development and operations with the emergence of DevOps culture, continuous delivery, cloud computing, and automation. He noted that the world is witnessing a deeper transition towards autonomous systems through artificial intelligence. These systems participate in writing codes, testing, performance analysis, and decision-making, raising questions about accountability, human oversight, and cybersecurity.
Eng. Rafeat Hendy emphasized Egypt's rapid progress in digital transformation, expanding digital government services for millions of citizens. He stated that DevOps represents a fundamental pillar in building reliable and scalable digital services. The Ministry recently launched "Krank," the first large Egyptian linguistic model capable of understanding Arabic and Egyptian colloquial language.
The conference features four main tracks, discussing topics related to DevOps evolution in the era of artificial intelligence, including cost sustainability, human element sustainability, governance, and cybersecurity. The program also includes three dialogue sessions and three specialized workshops on DevOps and artificial intelligence applications.
The event concludes with the announcement of the winning teams in the "Employing DevOps and Artificial Intelligence to Accelerate Automation and Drive Innovation" competition. Out of 142 participating teams, 20 teams qualified for the final stage, consisting of 10 student teams and 10 teams from graduates and specialists. A committee of 12 judges evaluated the finalists, with six Egyptian and six international judges.
