Egypt's chemical and fertilizer exports have continued to grow, reaching $8.25 billion from January to August 2026. This represents a 30.2% increase from the same period in 2025, when exports were $6.34 billion. The growth is attributed to a significant increase of $1.92 billion. The chemical and fertilizer sector now accounts for 24% of Egypt's non-oil exports.
The Egyptian Export Council for Chemical and Fertilizer Industries, led by Khaled Abu El-Makram, reported that the sector's exports have been driven by growth in various product categories. Fertilizers, petrochemicals, plastics, and intermediate chemicals have been key contributors to this growth. Fertilizer exports reached $2.21 billion, up 12% from the same period in 2025.
Petrochemical exports saw the highest growth rate, increasing to $2.03 billion from $1.09 billion in 2025, representing a growth of 86.2%. Organic chemicals exports jumped 105.7% to $315.93 million, while inorganic chemicals exports rose 38% to $642.73 million. Plastics exports reached $1.724 billion, up 16% from the same period in 2025.
The Export Council reported that the European Union remains the largest importer of Egyptian chemical and fertilizer products, with exports valued at $3.02 billion, representing 37% of the sector's total exports. The EU's growth rate was 20%. Asia, excluding Arab countries, saw a significant growth of 85%, with exports reaching $2.10 billion, accounting for 25% of the sector's total exports.
The Arab League countries, led by the Arab League, received $1.443 billion worth of Egyptian chemical and fertilizer exports, representing a 17% growth rate. Africa, excluding Arab countries, and the United States also saw significant growth rates of 33% and 68.2%, respectively. Turkey, Italy, and India were among the top importers of Egyptian chemical and fertilizer products.
Turkey was the largest importer, with $943 million worth of exports, representing a 20.3% growth rate. India saw an exceptional growth rate of 325.2%, with exports reaching $626.92 million. Other countries, including Saudi Arabia, Spain, France, China, and Britain, also saw significant growth rates. The top 10 importers accounted for 56% of the sector's total exports.
Khaled Abu El-Makram, head of the Export Council, emphasized that the sector's growth reflects its increasing contribution to Egypt's exports. He highlighted the importance of continuing efforts to enhance the competitiveness of Egyptian products and expand the base of exporting markets. The council will continue to support Egyptian companies in exploring export opportunities and promoting trade.
