Egypt's Asyut health department has officially launched the first cardiac catheterization unit at Deirut Central Hospital. This development marks a significant milestone in the region's healthcare sector, aligning with presidential directives to enhance specialized medical services and make them more accessible to citizens. The unit is a result of collaboration between health authorities and Asyut University.

The cardiac catheterization unit at Deirut Central Hospital began operations on October 8, 2026, with a team of skilled medical professionals, including Dr. Mohamed Mohamed Reza Abdel Aziz and Dr. Amir Khalifa Mahfouz Khalifa, who are instructors and consultants for heart and artery catheterization at Asyut University. The unit provides a comprehensive range of diagnostic and therapeutic services, including diagnostic catheterization of heart arteries and muscles, and therapeutic catheterization for stent placement and blood vessel dilation.

The new unit is equipped to handle emergency cases of acute heart attacks and severe chest pain around the clock, with direct connections to intensive care, emergency, and reception departments within the hospital. This setup enables rapid response to critical cases that require immediate intervention within the first golden minutes to prevent complications from coronary artery clots.

According to Dr. Mohamed Jamal Ahmed, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health in Asyut, the launch of the cardiac catheterization unit at Deirut Central Hospital represents a significant shift in reducing the burden on the cardiac catheterization unit at Asyut General Hospital and university hospitals in the governorate. This development will alleviate the need for patients and their families from Deirut, Quseya, and neighboring areas to travel to the governorate capital.

The Asyut health department reported that, under the "Decent Life" initiative, 20,000 free services were provided to 8,243 citizens in September. This includes four blood transfusion sessions in the womb, saving a fetus from severe anemia at the Women's Health Hospital of Asyut University. These efforts reflect the ongoing commitment to improving healthcare services in the region.

Dr. Mohamed Jamal Ahmed expressed his gratitude to all medical personnel and the first line of defense at the hospital, particularly the distinguished nursing staff, radiology teams, technicians, and administrators. He praised the high spirit and institutional integration that made this achievement a reality, serving millions of citizens in Upper Egypt.

The introduction of the cardiac catheterization unit at Deirut Central Hospital is expected to significantly enhance the quality of healthcare services in Asyut, making specialized cardiac care more accessible to residents and reducing the need for referrals to larger hospitals in the region.
