Ain Shams University's Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center, led by Dr. Niveen Asim, has achieved a significant milestone by winning the top spot in the inaugural University Innovation Summit 2026. The summit, held under the auspices of Dr. Mohamed Dziaa Zain El-Abidine, President of Ain Shams University, and Dr. Amani Osama Kamel, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research, showcased a competition among nearly 100 projects from 30 universities and 24 schools.
The winning project, "Intelligent System for Truck Routing and Driver Monitoring," was developed by a team of students from Ain Shams University. This project utilizes artificial intelligence and modern technology to create innovative solutions for real-world challenges in transportation and safety. The project was selected from among 100 entries and competed against other top projects in the summit.
The University Innovation Summit 2026, hosted by the Zewail City of Science, Technology, and Innovation, provided a platform for students to showcase their innovative projects and interact with experts, specialists, and industry stakeholders. A panel of experts and specialists evaluated and judged the participating projects. Ain Shams University's project was recognized for its innovative use of artificial intelligence and technology.
The top three projects in the summit were: Ain Shams University's "Intelligent System for Truck Routing and Driver Monitoring" in first place, Cairo Technological University's "Advanced Prosthetic Hand Technology with AI" in second place, and Benisuef Technological University's "Self-Drive EV (Self-Driving Electric Vehicle)" in third place.
Dr. Mohamed Majdi, the principal researcher of the project, oversaw the implementation of the program, while Ms. Salma Samir, project manager, coordinated the execution and collaboration between teams and participating parties. The Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center at Ain Shams University supported 21 graduation projects for students from various universities.
The center's participation in the program is part of a larger initiative that includes supporting 420 projects in 11 emerging technology fields, with 11 partners and a total budget of 41 million Egyptian pounds. The goal is to enhance the student innovation ecosystem and connect university education outcomes with industry needs and job market requirements.
The University Innovation Summit 2026 also featured a workshop by Dr. Mohamed Majdi on the role of universities in supporting industry and best practices for attracting industrial partners. The summit concluded with a ceremony honoring participating alliances, attended by several academic leaders, including the President of the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology.
