Egypt's Minister of Local Development and Environment, Dr. Manal Awad, has announced the launch of an initiative to develop three technological centers in the Fayoum governorate. This initiative aims to facilitate access to government services for people with disabilities, in line with the state's efforts to promote social inclusion and equality of opportunities. The centers are located in the cities of Fayoum, Abshway, and Snurs.
The initiative is part of the ministry's plan to develop local service delivery and improve the efficiency of technological centers, taking into account the needs of all segments of society. Dr. Awad emphasized that improving the level of government service does not only involve speeding up transactions or updating means of delivery, but also ensuring that every citizen can access and benefit from services without discrimination or obstacles.
According to a report received by Dr. Awad from Dr. Saeed Helmy Abdel Khaleq, head of the Local Planning and Integrated Development Sector, the centers will undergo renovation to make them accessible to people with disabilities. The renovation includes improving movement paths and citizen reception areas, as well as providing necessary equipment and facilities to achieve easy access to service outlets.
The report highlighted the importance of these efforts in removing obstacles that people with disabilities may face when accessing technological centers or moving between service delivery areas. This will enable them to obtain local services more easily and independently, reducing the difficulties they may encounter while completing transactions and promoting their right to directly interact with government agencies.
The initiative also focuses on preparing citizen reception areas and facilitating interactions within the technological center, taking into account the different needs of its visitors. This will enhance the ability of employees to provide services in a suitable manner, making procedures for obtaining local services easier, clearer, and more accessible to all segments of society.
Dr. Awad stressed the importance of full coordination between the ministry, the Fayoum governorate, and relevant executive agencies to monitor the implementation of renovation works and ensure the application of accessibility standards. She added that the selection of three technological centers in the Fayoum governorate as a first stage represents the beginning of a broader effort to gradually generalize the experience to technological centers in other governorates.
The development of technological centers is one of the important axes for upgrading the local administration system. The ministry aims to provide a decent and accessible government service for all, which not only involves improving infrastructure and accelerating procedures but also takes into account the needs of citizens with different categories and provides conditions that enable people with disabilities to obtain services independently and with dignity.
