The Cairo Governorate has begun implementing a new standardized model for licensed kiosks in the city, giving existing owners a 3-month deadline to comply. The new model aims to enhance the urban aesthetic of Cairo. Owners of existing kiosks have been given a 3-month window to adjust their setups and replace the old model with the new one. This new design will be a prerequisite for renewing licenses.

The total cost of implementing the new standardized model ranges from 50,000 to 60,000 EGP, depending on the kiosk's size and required equipment. To facilitate the transition, authorities have provided two payment options for kiosk owners. The first option involves paying 25% of the total cost upfront, which ranges from 12,500 to 15,000 EGP, with the remaining balance payable over two years without interest.

The second option allows kiosk owners to implement the new model themselves, provided they adhere to the approved design and obtain the necessary approvals. In this case, they will receive a 20% discount on the annual permit fee. The new model has specific requirements, including a standardized size of 2x2 meters or 3x3 meters, designated spaces for refrigerators and shelves, a fire extinguisher, and an independent electricity meter.

Each kiosk must also be equipped with a QR code that contains the license details, location, and owner's information, enabling electronic inspection. Additionally, kiosks must not exceed the allocated space or encroach on sidewalks and surrounding areas. The new system also introduces electronic management through the QR code on the kiosk's facade, which can be scanned to display the owner's name, street and district information, license dates, and outstanding dues.

The QR code system aims to improve oversight and enforcement of regulations. The kiosk's facade will also feature Cairo Governorate's logo, the kiosk's name, license number, and designated space for advertisements. Existing kiosk owners are required to adhere to these new standards to renew their licenses. Failure to comply may result in license cancellation.

The new regulations do not allow for the issuance of new licenses for establishing kiosks in Cairo, maintaining the current ban on new kiosk installations. This move is part of efforts to preserve the city's urban landscape. The standardized model will be gradually implemented across all Cairo districts.

Key aspects of the new kiosk policy include a focus on electronic management, strict adherence to designated spaces, and a ban on new kiosk installations. Existing owners have been given a limited timeframe to adjust to the new standards, emphasizing the government's commitment to enforcing these regulations.
