The Egyptian government has introduced a new set of benefits and services for pensioners, aimed at providing them with social care and easing their access to various services at discounted prices. According to Law 148 of 2019, pensioners will be entitled to a range of services, including assistance with delivering their pensions to their homes, particularly for those who are elderly, sick, or disabled.
The law also provides for recreational and social activities, such as organizing trips, visits to public parks, and stays at resorts and tourist destinations. Pensioners will also be able to watch artistic and theatrical performances at discounted prices, subject to specific rules governing the use of these services. Furthermore, the government can agree with various entities to provide additional benefits and services to pensioners.
One of the key benefits provided by the law is the reduction in transportation costs and entrance fees to certain public places. Pensioners will be eligible for a relative discount on the use of state-owned railways and public transportation within cities. They will also enjoy discounted entrance fees to state-owned clubs, museums, exhibitions, cinemas, and theaters.
In addition to these benefits, pensioners may also be eligible for reduced accommodation costs at state-run treatment centers and lower costs for trips organized by government agencies, public institutions, and economic units. According to the law, discounts on these services can reach up to 75% of the official value, subject to specific decisions and controls for each service.
The law also grants pensioners priority access to certain banking services and travel facilities. They will be given priority in some of the facilities offered by the board of directors of EgyptAir, as well as in the services provided by the General Authority for Nasser Social Bank and other banks and entities, according to the applicable rules.
The President of the National Social Insurance Authority, with the approval of the Board of Directors, will determine the categories eligible for the social care services provided to pensioners. The Board of Directors will propose activities and services and set the necessary rules and conditions for their use.
The new system aims to provide a social safety net for pensioners through a range of services and discounts that will help them access their various needs. The system can also be expanded to include additional social activities and services, as determined by the executive regulations of the law.
