Egyptian Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar recently visited South Korea to discuss plans with Samsung Electronics for the local production of medical imaging equipment. The talks included a proposal to establish a factory in Egypt to manufacture ultrasound devices in cooperation with Al-Radwan, Samsung's local agent. This move aims to enhance Egypt's healthcare infrastructure and provide advanced medical equipment.

During his visit, Abdel Ghaffar toured a new Samsung ultrasound factory scheduled to open the following week. He reviewed the production lines and observed the use of artificial intelligence and robotics in manufacturing. This exposure likely provided valuable insights into the latest technologies and manufacturing processes.

The Ministry of Health reported that Abdel Ghaffar and Samsung officials also discussed the potential local production of digital mobile X-ray units. A separate study is being conducted to assess the feasibility of this project. The two sides are exploring ways to collaborate and upgrade Egypt's healthcare facilities.

The meeting also covered plans to establish a Samsung training academy, with the Princess Fatma Academy for Professional Medical Education proposed as a potential location. This academy would provide technical training for ministry engineers and technicians in equipment operation, digital systems, maintenance, and technical support.

Officials reviewed progress on a project to upgrade 715 family health centres and units across Egypt. This project includes the technical specifications of medical and digital equipment required for the facilities. The upgrade is part of a broader effort to improve healthcare services nationwide.

The discussions also addressed the delivery of 150 Samsung ultrasound devices, including their operational status, warranty, and maintenance arrangements, as well as staff training requirements. Furthermore, the ministry and Samsung explored opportunities to expand the use of Samsung's digital solutions in hospitals and health centres.

The talks covered various aspects of healthcare development, including the Decent Life initiative, which aims to upgrade healthcare facilities. However, the expected investment value of the proposed local manufacturing projects and a timetable for a final decision were not disclosed.
