Egypt has been experiencing a slight rise in temperatures since last Saturday, which is unusual for this time of year as autumn is typically characterized by decreasing temperatures. The increase has sparked curiosity among the public regarding the cause of this unseasonable warmth and when temperatures are expected to return to normal. According to Dr. Manar Ghanem, a meteorologist at the Egyptian Meteorological Authority, the current temperature rise is attributed to a low-pressure system in the Western Desert.
The low-pressure system brought with it desert air masses, contributing to the increased temperatures. Furthermore, the rise in wind speeds has led to the stirring up of sand and dust. Dr. Ghanem noted that fluctuations in temperature during autumn are normal, especially since the season has only just begun. She also highlighted the rapid changes in weather conditions that can occur from one day to the next, which is typical for this time of year.
Dr. Ghanem reassured the public that while temperatures may rise again during the autumn season, any increases will not be significantly higher than the normal average, at most 2-3 degrees. She predicted that temperatures would return to their usual levels starting from next Thursday. In the meantime, she advised the public to dress appropriately for the season, suggesting the use of autumnal clothing and light jackets, especially during the night and early morning hours.
The advice to dress in layers comes as a precaution against potential colds, particularly for children. Dr. Ghanem cautioned against being deceived by the higher daytime temperatures, which are expected to be temporary, returning to normal levels at night. This guidance aims to help the public prepare for the variable weather conditions that are characteristic of autumn.
Looking ahead to the next day, temperatures are expected to remain high, with a forecast of hot weather across most areas and extremely hot conditions in the southern parts of the country. At night and in the early morning, the weather is predicted to be cool to cold. Specific temperature ranges for various regions have been provided, including: Cairo and the Nile Valley, where highs will reach 30-29°C and lows will range from 18-20°C.
For the coastal regions, temperatures are expected to reach 27-28°C during the day and 18-22°C at night. In the northern part of the country, highs of 31-33°C and lows of 18-19°C are anticipated. The southern regions are expected to experience the highest temperatures, with daytime highs of 37-36°C and nighttime lows of 19-20°C.
The meteorological authority's forecasts indicate that the public should prepare for continued temperature fluctuations in the coming days. Residents are advised to stay updated with the latest weather forecasts and adjust their clothing and activities accordingly. By being aware of the expected weather conditions, individuals can better plan their daily routines and take necessary precautions to stay comfortable and healthy.
