Egyptian Investment and Foreign Trade Minister Dr. Mohamed Farid attended the signing ceremony of a memorandum discussing the feasibility study for the development and renovation of the Cairo International Conference Center. The project is a collaboration between the Chinese International Development and Cooperation Agency (CIDCA) and the Egyptian side, represented by the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade and the Egyptian General Authority for Exhibitions and Conferences. The event was also attended by several Chinese diplomats.
Minister Farid emphasized that the project aligns with the state's efforts to enhance infrastructure supporting trade and investment. He highlighted that upgrading the conference center is crucial for Cairo's status as a regional hub for hosting international events and exhibitions. A Chinese team from the Guizhou Institute of Architectural Design and Research conducted a field study at the center from May 31 to June 14, 2026. The study aimed to assess the center's needs for development and renovation. The center spans approximately 185,000 square meters, with a total built-up area of around 58,000 square meters slated for development and renovation.
The project includes upgrading the center's infrastructure, facilities, and equipment. This involves modernizing conference halls, engineering and technical systems, and replacing the 25 elevators in the center. The development also covers enhancing open exhibition spaces, green areas, and public facilities. The center features three main conference halls with capacities of 2,500, 800, and 600 seats.
Egyptian Trade and Industry Minister Plenipotentiary Alaa El-Belhi, head of the Egyptian General Authority for Exhibitions and Conferences, noted that the project is a significant step toward developing the Cairo International Conference Center. He stressed that cooperation with China in preparing the feasibility study underscores the importance of the partnership between the two countries.
The Chinese side has committed to completing design work, implementing the project, and providing technical support for two years after its completion. This support includes training, expert advice, and necessary equipment and spare parts. The final details of the project, its scope, and the responsibilities of both parties will be determined through a subsequent agreement.
