Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi is set to visit Indonesia as part of his Asian tour, aiming to enhance bilateral relations between the two nations. In line with this, the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMS) released a statement highlighting the economic ties between Egypt and Indonesia. According to the CAPMS, the trade exchange between the two countries reached $1.6 billion in the first eight months of 2026.

The trade exchange between Egypt and Indonesia showed a significant increase from $1.4 billion in the same period of 2025. Egypt's exports to Indonesia decreased to $66 million in 2026 from $120 million in 2025. Meanwhile, Egypt's imports from Indonesia rose to $1.5 billion in 2026 from $1.3 billion in 2025. The CAPMS monitors and reports on the country's trade activities to provide insights into Egypt's economic relationships with other nations.

The main commodity groups exported by Egypt to Indonesia in the first eight months of 2026 included salt, sulphur, stone, and cement, valued at $39 million. Other notable export categories were vegetables and fruits at $10.5 million, metal ores, slag, and ash at $2.4 million, optical and cinema equipment and parts at $2.4 million, and stone and cement products at $2.2 million.

On the other hand, Egypt's main import categories from Indonesia in the first eight months of 2026 consisted of vegetable and animal fats and oils valued at $1.1 billion. Other significant import groups included tea, coffee, and spices at $132 million, electrical machinery and equipment and parts at $48 million, vehicles, tractors, and parts at $44 million, and cocoa and its preparations at $40 million.

The CAPMS also reported that Egyptian workers' remittances from Indonesia reached $7.3 million in the 2024/2025 fiscal year, up from $5.1 million in the 2023/2024 fiscal year. Conversely, remittances from Indonesian workers in Egypt decreased to $2.9 million in the 2024/2025 fiscal year from $3.6 million in the 2023/2024 fiscal year.

In terms of investments, Indonesian investments in Egypt stood at $903,000 in the 2024/2025 fiscal year. In contrast, Egyptian investments in Indonesia reached $145.9 million during the same period. The population of Egypt was recorded at 109.6 million in October 2026, while Indonesia's population was 288.4 million during the same period.

As of the end of 2025, the estimated number of Egyptian residents in Indonesia was 1,000. The visit by President El-Sisi aims to strengthen ties and potentially increase trade and investment between the two countries. The current trade and investment figures provide a foundation for future growth and cooperation between Egypt and Indonesia.
