Egypt's performance in human capital and research is also noteworthy. The country ranks 40th in research talent, 44th in the Hirsch index for citable documents, and 48th in university quality. These rankings demonstrate Egypt's ability to attract and retain skilled researchers and its improving academic landscape.
The Global Innovation Index report also mentions that Egypt is one of 34 economies worldwide and the only one in Africa with an innovation cluster – the Greater Cairo cluster – that is ranked among the top 100 innovation clusters globally. This achievement underscores Egypt's growing innovation ecosystem.
In terms of economic diversity, Egypt ranks 27th globally, reflecting its diversified economy. The country's expenditure on research and development is just over 1% of its GDP. Additionally, Egypt has seen significant improvements in foreign direct investment, ranking 22nd globally in net inflows of foreign direct investment.
The report also notes improvements in Egypt's manufacturing and high-tech export indicators. These advancements are a result of the government's ongoing efforts to develop the higher education and scientific research system, support research and innovation, and enhance the role of universities and research institutions in achieving sustainable development.
