Efon Local Government Area of Ekiti State has made a passionate appeal to the state government to prioritize the rehabilitation of township roads, expansion of water infrastructure, and construction of a High Court building in its 2026/2027 budget. This request was made on behalf of the council at the 2026/2027 Budget Consultative Forum for Ekiti Central Senatorial District held on September 24. The council commended Governor Biodun Oyebanji for ongoing projects and interventions in the area.
The council acknowledged the ongoing renovation and establishment of an Intensive Care Unit at Efon General Hospital, reconstruction of Oja Oba at Erekesan, construction of a mini stadium, installation of solar streetlights, and provision of transformers across the local government. Additionally, the council appreciated the state government’s intervention in the Efon Water Treatment Plant following the breakdown of the existing facility, which restored potable water supply and helped avert a public health crisis.
However, the council appealed to the government to replace the old and corroded water pipes, which are causing significant water losses and low pressure. The council also requested the extension and reticulation of new water pipes to underserved areas, including C.A.C. and Babalola Grammar Schools, Alajo community, and the Odo and Oke Oniyo axes, where the General Hospital, mini stadium, and BOUESTI outreach facility are located.
On roads, the council noted that Efon’s hilly terrain and vulnerability to erosion have continued to damage township roads, urging the government to provide proper drainage and tar the affected roads. The council listed several roads for intervention, including the road leading to Oni River and Apostle Ayo Babalola spiritual water site, Ita-Odo General Hospital-Alajo-Aramoko-Ado-Ekiti Road, and Peteeko-Ita-Osun Junction Road.
The council also requested the construction of a High Court building on land donated by the community, noting that the existing facility is being used on loan from Efon Alaaye Club. For Ahun community, the council requested the provision of medical personnel and equipment for its health centre, construction of a market, and provision of a town hall.
The council further requested the establishment of a grammar school in Iwaji community as its major request for the 2026/2027 budget. The council also commended the government for renovating primary and secondary schools, fencing schools and government establishments, providing agricultural inputs and seedlings, and improving rural access roads under the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP).
The council expressed appreciation for the appointment of Efon indigenes into pensionable positions and the consideration of Efon for representation in the Ekiti Central Constituency II House of Representatives seat. The emergence of Kasto Labuja as an Efon candidate represented the fulfilment of the governor’s promise, pledging continued cooperation with other constituencies ahead of the forthcoming national and state elections.
