The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC) has expressed its commitment to collaborating with the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Enugu Branch, on capacity development and technology-driven solutions in the engineering sector. This commitment was made when the NSE Enugu Branch's newly elected Executive Committee paid a courtesy visit to EEDC's management at the company's corporate headquarters in Enugu. The visit aimed to strengthen ties between the two organizations and explore areas of mutual cooperation.
EEDC's Managing Director/CEO, Engr. Vincent Ekwekwu, welcomed the delegation and emphasized the importance of building human capacity and ensuring that only certified professionals practice within the engineering space. He highlighted the need to leverage technology to optimize operational processes, improve revenue generation, and ensure long-term sustainability. Ekwekwu also called for NSE's support in training EEDC staff to broaden their exposure and encourage internal engineers to register as official NSE members.
The NSE Enugu Branch Chairman, Engr. Osondu Loveday, acknowledged EEDC's pivotal role in powering the socio-economic framework of the South-East. He expressed the NSE's readiness to collaborate with EEDC in technical knowledge sharing, engineering safety, infrastructure development, public enlightenment, and capacity building. Loveday noted that electricity remains fundamental to industrialization, commerce, healthcare, education, and modern life.
EEDC's Group Chief Financial Officer, Mr. Pauli Isiguzo, assured the NSE of the company's support in identifying potential members within EEDC. He urged the NSE leadership to design tailored training modules centered on peculiar operational realities. Isiguzo noted that home-grown initiatives developed by local engineers like those in the NSE can address specific challenges within EEDC's operating environment.
The visit served to formally introduce the branch's new leadership, deepen existing institutional relationships, and map out strategic areas of mutual cooperation. Members of EEDC's Management Team and NSE Executive Council Members were present during the visit. The two organizations aim to work together on future programs and activities that drive innovation and growth in the engineering sector.
Ekwekwu briefed the delegation on recent developments within the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI), detailing EEDC's evolution and the emergence of state-focused subsidiary distribution companies across the South-East zone following regulatory sector reforms. This briefing provided context for the potential areas of collaboration between EEDC and NSE.
