Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has announced a proposed leadership team for the Linda Mwananchi Party as it prepares for the 2027 General Election. The team was unveiled during the launch of the party's national headquarters in Lavington, Nairobi, which was attended by several opposition leaders. The proposed leadership structure features several prominent figures, including Godfrey Osotsi, Caroli Omondi, and Kawira Mwangaza.
The proposed leadership team includes Edwin Sifuna as party leader, with Kawira Mwangaza, Patrick Makau, and Faith Odhiambo as deputy party leaders. A fourth position has been reserved for a representative from the Coast region. Godfrey Osotsi has been proposed as national chairperson, with Reuben Ndolo as deputy national chairperson. The party also intends to have a Board of Trustees, which will be chaired by Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya.
The launch of the party's national headquarters was attended by several high-profile leaders, including former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, and DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa. However, the event was marked by an awkward moment involving Kalonzo Musyoka, who was heckled by sections of the crowd as he addressed the gathering. Supporters repeatedly chanted Sifuna's name after Kalonzo cautioned against declaring the Nairobi senator a presidential candidate.
Sifuna said the proposed leadership team would be presented to delegates during the National Delegates Convention scheduled for November 13. The party intends to formalize its structures and establish offices across all 47 counties by December. The headquarters will serve as the party's national coordination centre and presidential campaign command centre as it builds structures ahead of the next General Election.
The party's leadership team also includes Caroli Omondi as secretary-general, Pauline Njoroge as deputy secretary-general, and Richard Onyonka as national treasurer. Abigail Gikonyo, popularly known as Abi Zuena, has been proposed as deputy national treasurer. The party has also appointed several other officials, including Boni Khalwale as secretary for political affairs and campaigns, and Carey Karani as organizing secretary.
Sifuna said the party intended to have one leader and four deputies to accommodate different regions. He also announced plans to establish offices across all 47 counties, with Kwale expected to host the first phase of the rollout on October 31. The party's leadership team is expected to play a crucial role in its preparations for the 2027 General Election.
