The U.S Embassy in Ghana has organized the 2026 EducationUSA College Fair in Kumasi, bringing together over 30 United States colleges and universities. The event aims to guide students in making informed educational decisions. Ghana currently has two EducationUSA centers, located in Accra and Kumasi, which assist qualified individuals in becoming successful applicants to U.S colleges and universities.
Ms. Pam De Volder, Public Affairs Officer at the U.S Embassy in Accra, emphasized the importance of education in the United States, highlighting the country's emphasis on liberty, opportunity, and the conviction that one's starting point does not determine their end point. This, she stated, is at the heart of American higher education. The college fair also seeks to strengthen bilateral relationships by connecting students with accredited American universities and colleges.
According to Ms. De Volder, Ghana is currently the second-highest sender of students in sub-Saharan Africa to the United States. This reflects the importance Ghana places on education, self-improvement, and developing the country through research and partnerships. She encouraged students to imagine how education could help them contribute to their communities and Ghana's future developments.
The Public Affairs Officer expressed appreciation for the support from the government through the Ministry of Education in organizing students, guardians, and counselors to interact about their interests and dreams of studying in the United States. The event provides a platform for students to explore opportunities in American higher education.
Madam Marylyn Owusu, Executive Director of ACE Consult, noted that with approximately 13,000 students from Ghana currently studying in the U.S, the College Fairs organized over the years have made opportunities available to everyone, regardless of academic excellence or financial background.
Dr. Frank Amoakohene, the Ashanti Regional Minister, cautioned that higher learning should not be bounded by national borders, but rather encourage peer-to-peer training and knowledge transfer across borders. He assured EducationUSA and the U.S Embassy of the region's full support in extending education advice to prospective students.
