The Director-General of the Edo State Health Insurance Commission (EDOHIC), Dr. Augusta Ikpea-Enaholo, has been honoured with the Integrity Stewardship Service Ambassador Award. The award was presented by the Advocacy for Peace and Value Reorientation, Abuja, on September 23, 2026, in recognition of her leadership, administrative discipline, and commitment to expanding access to quality healthcare services across Edo State. Dr. Ikpea-Enaholo received the award at the EDOHIC headquarters in Benin City. The award acknowledges her exemplary leadership and adherence to work ethics.
Dr. Ikpea-Enaholo said the recognition would further strengthen her resolve to pursue excellence, accountability, and improved healthcare access for residents of the state. She attributed the progress recorded by EDOHIC to the leadership and support of the Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, saying the administration had created an enabling environment for the Commission to advance its mandate and contribute to the development of the state’s health sector. The Governor's support has been instrumental in EDOHIC's achievements.
The EDOHIC helmsman also credited the Commission’s achievements to the dedication and professionalism of its workforce, stressing that sustained progress was a product of collective effort. She reaffirmed EDOHIC’s commitment to expanding health insurance coverage and reducing unnecessary financial barriers to healthcare, while strengthening residents’ confidence in the state’s health insurance system. EDOHIC aims to ensure that residents, particularly vulnerable groups, understand their health insurance rights and benefits.
Executive Director of the Advocacy for Peace and Value Reorientation, Comrade Abubakar A. Oyibo, presented the award and described Dr. Ikpea-Enaholo as a distinguished leader in the health insurance sector. Oyibo said the programme places particular emphasis on education and health reforms capable of producing direct benefits for the people. The programme aims to identify and celebrate public officials and Ministries, Departments and Agencies demonstrating ethical leadership and commitment to service delivery.
Oyibo noted that the responsibilities of an EDOHIC Director-General extend beyond administration and oversight to include public education, confidence-building, and empowering residents to understand and utilise available healthcare services. He commended Dr. Ikpea-Enaholo's administrative discipline and compliance with work ethics, noting that her efforts were aligned with the Edo State Government’s SHINE Agenda and the broader objective of making healthcare more accessible.
The award adds to the growing focus on EDOHIC’s role in promoting responsible health-sector leadership, public awareness, and wider access to healthcare services in Edo State. With the award, the Commission is expected to further intensify its public engagement and health insurance expansion efforts, translating policy and leadership initiatives into tangible improvements in healthcare access and outcomes for Edo residents. EDOHIC will continue to promote awareness of health insurance and encourage residents to utilise primary healthcare facilities.
