Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, on Monday commenced his ward-to-ward mobilisation campaign for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's re-election in 2027, braving torrential rain in Benin City. The governor, accompanied by Deputy Governor Dennis Idahosa and other top government officials, visited several locations in Egor and Oredo local government areas. Despite being drenched by the rain, Okpebholo expressed enthusiasm for the campaign, citing his loyalty to President Tinubu, whom he described as his political father.
Okpebholo stated that although his own governorship mandate would not be on the ballot in 2027, he had thrown himself into the race to support President Tinubu's re-election bid. He vowed to personally lead the mobilisation for the President and other All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates across the state. The governor set a target of 2.5 million votes for Tinubu's re-election in 2027, expressing confidence in achieving this goal.
The governor's campaign train visited several locations in Egor and Oredo, including Ogida Barracks Police Training School, Textile Mill, Garrick Memorial College, Edokpolor Grammar School, and Uwa Primary School. At these venues, Okpebholo interacted with party members and mobilised support for APC candidates. Despite the downpour, supporters remained at the venues, demonstrating their enthusiasm for the party and its candidates.
Okpebholo attributed the high turnout at the campaign events to the love and support enjoyed by the APC and its candidates. He thanked residents of Egor and Oredo for supporting the APC in the recently concluded local government elections and urged them to sustain this support in the 2027 general election. The governor also asked voters to support APC candidates for the National Assembly and Edo State House of Assembly, as well as President Tinubu.
Addressing the issue of road conditions in the state, Okpebholo stated that his administration was working to address the failed roads inherited from the previous administration. He assured that the government would continue to intervene to make the roads motorable. The governor attributed the bad roads to the previous administration, but emphasised that his government was committed to fixing them.
Deputy Governor Idahosa and Edo APC Chairman Jarrett Tenebe also spoke at the campaign events, thanking party members for their support and urging them to mobilise for APC candidates in the general election. Tenebe expressed confidence that the party would achieve its 2.5 million-vote target for Tinubu, citing the success of the party in the local government elections.
The campaign events marked the beginning of Okpebholo's ward-to-ward mobilisation effort for Tinubu's re-election bid.
