Ecobank Ghana has taken a significant step in supporting education and digital inclusion in the country by commissioning a Digital Learning Centre for the 4 Garrison Education Centre in Kumasi. This initiative is part of the bank’s 40th anniversary celebrations and reflects its commitment to empowering future generations. The centre is equipped with 26 computers and furniture, providing pupils with the tools they need to acquire technological skills.
The Digital Learning Centre is expected to serve as a hub for digital skills development, providing pupils with opportunities to learn coding, web development, animation, robotics, artificial intelligence, and other emerging technologies. According to Mr. Fred Amegashie, Zonal Head and Area Manager, who spoke on behalf of the Managing Director, the bank’s goal is to help pupils solve problems and discover new possibilities. The centre will also provide long-term support to the school.
The project is part of Ecobank’s three-year Transforming Africa Through Education programme, which aims to support teachers and pupils across the bank’s African footprint. This year’s event marks the culmination of the programme and is being held under the theme: “Building Tomorrow’s Skills Today”. The initiative brings together ‘Ecobankers’ across the bank’s 33 affiliate countries to provide a befitting 40th anniversary legacy.
Ecobank Day is the Group’s flagship corporate social responsibility initiative observed annually across all 33 affiliate countries. The event reflects the bank’s continued commitment to supporting education, digital inclusion, and skills development in Ghana. Since 2023, Ecobank has created over 40 laboratories and digital learning centres to support teachers and pupils.
The 4 Garrison Education Officer, Lt. Col. I. Y. A. Niminga-Beka, welcomed the facility and expressed hope that the children will be elevated and blossom. He noted that it is through collaboration and teamwork that Ecobank has delivered the project to help nurture young talents. The school management has been advised to take ownership of the facility and participate in the training-of-trainers programme.
The Director of Education at the Ghana Armed Forces, Col. Osman Zuneidu, urged learners to see the facility as an opportunity to develop their knowledge. He expressed gratitude to Ecobank for providing the centre and said its significance will be felt through the knowledge acquired and the transformation of learners’ lives. He noted that today’s digital world demands such facilities.
Mr. Amegashie also reminded the school management that the facility requires continuous attention to serve its intended purpose. He expressed gratitude to colleagues within the Ecobank family for their support in financing and creating opportunities for the next generation. The commissioning of the Digital Learning Centre is a testament to Ecobank’s commitment to making a positive impact in the communities it serves.
