The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced a four-day schedule of daytime power cuts across several communities in Accra East and Tema, effective from October 5 to 8, 2026. This move is aimed at repairing faults that have repeatedly disrupted electricity supply in the area. Residents and business owners are advised to prepare for blackouts lasting from 9:00am to 5:00pm each day, with slight variations depending on the location.
According to the schedule released by ECG, the power cuts will affect different neighborhoods on different days. On October 5, areas such as Nanakrom, Little Roses, Avenor, Caprice, Dome Pillar 2, Ablor Adjei, and surrounding communities will experience outages. The following day, October 6, will see Pantang Borla, Shalom Estate, Adenta, and nearby neighborhoods affected. On October 7, the cuts will shift to Bohye, Atomic Commission Ghana, NIA Head Office, Tallow Oil, Pacific filling station, West Trassaco, and surrounding areas.
The power cuts on October 8 will affect the largest number of communities, including Madina, Social Welfare, Ogbojo, Ability, Atanor, Tsumasiwaa Hospital, Gorno School, Cold Store, Adom, Libya Quarters, Zongo Junction, Redco Flats, and their surroundings. ECG described the exercise as emergency maintenance work necessitated by multiple recent faults within its distribution network in the affected zones.
The state-owned power distributor stated that the exercise is intended to fix faults within its distribution network and improve the reliability of power supply to the affected zones. ECG apologized for the inconvenience the outages would cause. The company has been carrying out planned and emergency repair works in recent weeks to stabilize supply within its distribution infrastructure.
For households and small businesses across the listed communities, the four-day schedule means planning around extended daytime outages for cooking, refrigeration, phone charging, and office or shop operations that rely on mains electricity. This is particularly significant for businesses that depend heavily on power during normal working hours.
Based on the schedule released, the outages are expected to run strictly from October 5 to October 8, 2026, between 9:00am and 5:00pm in most of the listed areas. No further dates or extensions have been announced, and ECG has not said whether the repairs are expected to be the final fix for the faults affecting the Accra East and Tema network.
The maintenance exercise comes as ECG continues to work on stabilizing its distribution infrastructure. The company has not provided information on whether more maintenance exercises can be expected after the scheduled four-day period. Residents and business owners are advised to plan accordingly and bear with ECG as it works to improve the reliability of power supply in the affected areas.
